7 hospital, health system construction projects worth $300M or more

Below are seven hospitals or health systems that recently announced or completed construction projects worth more than $300 million in the last two months, reported by Becker's Hospital Review.

1. Houston Methodist unveils $700M patient tower this month
Houston Methodist will open its 22-story, $700 million patient tower Aug. 27. 

2. Pittsburgh council greenlights UPMC's $400M expansion plan
Although area residents, union members and community activists spoke out against the project, the Pittsburgh City Council approved Pittsburgh-based UPMC's proposal for a $400 million expansion.

San Francisco-based California Pacific Medical Center will shake up service offerings when its $538 million hospital opens in August.

4. Medical University of South Carolina gets OK to build 128-bed Nexton hospital
Charleston-based Medical University of South Carolina received approval from the state health department to build a $325 million hospital in Berkeley County.

5. Colorado VA hospital to open $1B over budget after 5-year delay
Although it's five-years behind schedule and $1 billion over budget, the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center opened to outpatients July 27 and inpatients Aug. 4. The cost of the project was $1.7 billion.

6. Bayhealth to open $314M replacement hospital in February
Dover, Del.-based Bayhealth will open its $314 million, six-story replacement hospital in Milford, Del., to patients in February 2019. 

7. Cottage Health nears end of $750M project to build earthquake-resistant hospital
Santa Barbara, Calif.-based Cottage Health soon will complete its decadelong, $750 million project to rebuild its Santa Barbara hospital to make it earthquake-resistant.
