6 hospitals planning upgrades, expansions

Below are six hospitals or health systems that recently announced, started or completed construction projects in the last two weeks.

1. White Plains Hospital breaks ground on $272M expansion
White Plains (N.Y.) Hospital broke ground on its nine-story, $272 million outpatient center this week, according to a tweet from the hospital.

2. Mount Carmel opens $361M hospital April 28
Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio, opened its $361 million, 210-bed replacement hospital April 28.

3. Atrium doubles size of cancer institute with $125M addition
Charlotte, N.C.-based Atrium Health opened a $125 million addition to the system's flagship Levine Cancer Institute, also in Charlotte, April 22.

4. Sarasota Memorial Hospital breaks ground on 8-story cancer tower
Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Hospital broke ground April 16 on its eight-story tower dedicated to cancer care.

5. Texas hospital opens $63M maternity unit amid national trend of closures
Las Palmas Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, owned by Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare, opened a three-story, $63 million maternity ward March 27.

6. MetroHealth breaks ground on 264-bed Cleveland hospital
MetroHealth System in Cleveland broke ground April 15 on an 11-story, 264-bed hospital, part of its $946 million revamp.
