6 hospitals planning upgrades, expansions

Six hospitals or health systems announced, started or completed construction projects in the last two weeks:

1. Stony Brook Medicine's 4-story expansion opens to patients Nov. 17
Stony Brook (N.Y.) Medicine will open its four-story expansion of its children's hospital to patients Nov. 17.

2. Emory University Hospital gets OK to build $469M cancer tower
Atlanta-based Emory University Hospital Midtown won state approval to build a 17-story, $469 million cancer tower.

3. Sanford Health to build heart hospital in North Dakota
Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health plans to build an all-inclusive heart hospital next to its facility in Bismarck, N.D.

4. Avera Specialty Hospital to open Oct. 29
Avera Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., will open to patients Oct. 29.

5. Emory Healthcare starts building $1B 'health innovation district'
Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare broke ground Oct. 4 on its musculoskeletal institute, part of the system's planned $1 billion "health innovation district."

6. Our Lady of the Lake opens $230M children's hospital
Our Lady of the Lake opened its $230 million children's hospital in Baton Rouge, La., Oct. 5.
