$35M upgrade of Florida ER approved by Naples board

The Naples, Fla., Planning Advisory Board approved NCH Downtown Baker Hospital's proposal for a $35 million emergency room expansion, according to the Naples Daily News.

The project would renovate the 27,000-square-foot ER, add 20,000 square feet of  observation rooms on the second floor and increase the number of beds from 32 to 43. Geriatric emergency rooms also will be added, as will four resuscitation and trauma units.

"The existing emergency department rooms and bays are not up to the new codes and the new best practices for the size and flow of an emergency department to best serve the public," said Patricia Rice-Spivey, vice president of Studio+ Architects, the project’s design firm.

The city council will vote on the project Feb. 6.
