5-Item Checklist for Spreading Innovations, Evidence-Based Practices

In a keynote address at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s 24th Annual National Forum, IHI President and CEO Maureen Bisognano described a checklist for spreading innovations and evidence-based best practices in healthcare, according to an IHI report.

The checklist includes the following five actions:

1. Set a vision to build will.
2. Find or create the best ideas.
3. Create the infrastructure to scale up.
4. Move beyond the walls of healthcare institutions.
5. Leverage teamwork to effect change.

She said spreading improvements for the benefit of all patients is “a technical challenge, a strategic challenge and a moral imperative,” according to the IHI report.
