Healthcare innovation is focused on personalization, cost savings: report

While other industries' innovation efforts center on increasing consumers' mobile access to services or speeding delivery of those services, the goal in healthcare skews toward personalized, lower-cost services and products, a new report suggests.

Executives within healthcare, representing providers as well as pharmaceutical and medical companies, cited "services/products that are personalized" and "innovations that lower the cost of everyday products and services" as the innovations they think will be most important to consumers in the next year. They were among the more than 1,000 executives surveyed in the annual "Innovators Become Leaders" report from Harvard Business Review Analytic Services and Mastercard.

The report also surveyed more than 1,000 consumers about the innovations that will capture their attention. First on the list, reflecting the priorities of healthcare organizations, were those that lower costs of products and services. Close behind were innovations that protect data privacy, facilitate easy returns and exchanges, and speed up the delivery of products and services.
