AHA Innovation Fund leads $10M funding for AI clinical decision support startup

Concord Health Partners, a healthcare-focused private equity firm, tapped its American Hospital Association Innovation Fund to lead the Series A funding for Mednition, a Burlingame, Calif.-based machine learning startup.

The $10 million in financing will support Mednition's efforts to scale out the commercial deployment of KATE, a machine learning-powered solution that analyzes hospital data to assess and predict the acuity of emergency department patients and alert nurses to anomalies in the data. The system integrates directly into existing EHR workflows and is continually updated based on nurse expertise and a dataset of more than 10 billion de-identified clinical data points.

The tool is already in use at Los Angeles-based Adventist Health White Memorial, where it has reportedly improved triage accuracy for all ED patients by nearly 27 percent, and by about 93 percent for high-acuity patients.
