YouTube launches initiative to put patient voices front and center

YouTube is launching a “Personal Stories” shelf to prioritize patient voices when YouTube users search for medical conditions on the platform.

To be eligible, videos labeled as “Personal Stories” must focus on a “personal, authentic lived experience that is relevant to a specific physical or mental health condition,” the Sept. 28 YouTube blog post said.

The changes are designed to help patients live with medical conditions by seeing how others live and deal with them. The new video shelf will be available first to users in the U.S., with plans to expand worldwide.
