Mysterious health system stickers pop up in Tennessee

Stickers have been popping up on walls and poles around Chattanooga, Tenn., promoting Chattanooga-based Erlanger Health’s naming rights for a new minor league baseball stadium.

Only the health system said it didn’t put them there.

“Someone’s out there slapping them up, but it’s not Erlanger,” Erlanger CEO Jim Coleman told the Chattanooga Times Free Press for an Aug. 28 story.

Mr. Coleman gave the interview while attending the Aug. 27 “topping-off” of Erlanger Park, the future home of the Chattanooga Lookouts, the Double-A affiliate of MLB’s Cincinnati Reds.

The stickers in question say, “We bought the best baseball stadium naming rights in Chattanooga,” and feature Erlanger’s logo, according to the Free Press. But it’s an old logo and not an official marketing campaign, Mr. Coleman said.

The office of the county mayor, who has criticized the naming rights deal, told the newspaper it doesn’t know who created or distributed the stickers. The news outlet posited that the stickers could be referring to Erlanger competitor, Chattanooga-based CHI Memorial Hospital, which has the naming rights for a local park. But that’s a soccer stadium.

“If you find out, we’d love to know,” Erlanger Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Patrice Batchelor told the publication.
