The agreement will compensate AT&T $725 million over a 12-year period, according to a June 9 news release.
Three details:
- The VA said it needs high-speed capacities for its data networks in both urban and rural regions to support its healthcare offerings for 18 million veterans and their families nationwide. The VA manages America’s largest health system, which operates 1,255 healthcare facilities, including 170 hospitals and 1,074 outpatient clinics.
- AT&T and the VA are already working on planning the modernization project.
- In addition to upgrading its data networks, the VA is modernizing its EHR systems with Cerner, which will cost at least $16 billion over the next decade.
