Patient at Alabama hospital says insurance auditor wrongly viewed her medical records

A former patient at Huntsville (Ala.) Hospital is claiming an employee improperly viewed her medical records, according to local news station WAFF.

Lisa Roland alleges an insurance auditor employed by Huntsville Hospital unnecessarily accessed her files. She now claims that since the incident, her information is being leaked.

Huntsville Hospital confirmed to Ms. Roland in a letter that her information was accessed without a business-related purpose. The insurance auditor, who is still employed at the hospital, viewed Ms. Roland's records twice in May 2018, reports WAFF.

A Huntsville Hospital employee declined to comment to WAFF on the matter, saying the hospital does not comment on personnel matters. However, a Huntsville Hospital spokesperson did say that employees are allowed to access patient files if the information is needed for them to complete their duties.
