Proofpoint released its 2019 Healthcare Threat Report to help organizations better understand how to prevent phishing attacks and other malware. The data in the report spans from the second quarter of 2018 to the first quarter of 2019.
Here are three things to know:
1. Healthcare organizations that are targets from cybercriminals received around 43 imposter emails in the first quarter of 2019. This is a 300 percent spike year over year.
2. Phishing emails often have the works “payment,” “request” or “urgent” in the subject line. These words appeared in 55 percent of all scam emails.
3. Nearly all healthcare organizations in the study — 95 percent — saw emails posing as their trusted domain. All of the organizations had their domain spoofed to target patients and other business partners.
