A patient sustained minor injuries after a fire broke out April 7 in a patient room at UPMC Hanover (Pa.), a UPMC spokesperson confirmed in a statement shared with Becker’s.
Firefighters responded to a fire alarm at the hospital around 6:39 p.m., according to the Hanover Evening Sun, which cited York County 911 records.
Upon arrival for the alarm system activation, they learned of a reported fire inside a patient room, Hanover Area Fire & Rescue Assistant Chief Andrew Crouse told the newspaper at the scene April 7.
In the statement, the UPMC spokesperson said staff responded immediately to extinguish the fire while relocating nearby patients to other units.
“One patient had minor injuries,” the statement added. “There was no impact on services and the hospital is accepting patients normally.”
Fire and police officials are investigating the fire, according to the Sun.
UPMC Hanover, a 100-bed hospital, is part of Pittsburgh-based UPMC.
