The old facility no longer met the seismic safety standards for hospitals required by the state, and patients have begun being transported by ambulance to the new location.
The new 680,000 square-foot, 350-bed facility will double the medical center’s previous size. Although the hospital’s current location had the same number of beds, the new location will feature many more private rooms.
The Bellflower facility will be converted into medical offices and an outpatient surgery center, according to the report.
