Local authorities were alerted after a fire alarm went off around 6:30 a.m. that morning and a fire was confirmed on the third floor of the women and children’s building. Hospital staff began evacuating patients to other areas of the facility while authorities were on their way.
“The fire is out and the sprinklers and fire suppression system worked as [they] should. Caregivers at the hospital were well prepared to help move patients,” a spokesperson said.
Hospital leaders are assessing damage and working with patients and families who were evacuated from the affected area. No other hospital operations were affected.
It’s unclear what caused the fire.
