The company is planning to increase its MinuteClinics locations from the current 570 to 1,000. The clinics will also provide more services, like diagnostic tests and chronic disease monitoring.
Some of the physicians at MinuteClinics are already employed, but Mr. Merlo said CVS is considering adding more to its ranks since CVS is so accessible. He said roughly three-fourths of Americans live within three miles of a store.
“We do not advocate for, nor do we believe, that the family physician is going away or should go away,” Mr. Merlo said in the report. “But we think we can be complementary.”
