Dr. Reardon, who was chief of endocrinology at St. Francis, used his supposed growth study as a cover for his alleged pedophilia. Dozens of former patients filed a lawsuit against St. Francis, accusing the hospital of failing to monitor Dr. Reardon’s interaction with his patients. The hospital has since settled the lawsuit but is now being ordered by Superior Court Judge Dan Shaban to reimburse a victim who sought the most recent penalty for concealed documents, according to the report.
The hospital has argued it acted in good faith by not providing victims copies of its medical staff bylaws because “the victims never asked for them,” according to the report. The victims argued that had the hospital followed its medical staff bylaw requiring peer review of staff research, Dr. Reardon’s abuse would have been uncovered.
