Prevent Diabetes STAT (Screen, Test, Act – Today) is a multiyear effort to reach out to Americans with prediabetes and prevent them from developing type 2 diabetes, which is one of the country’s most debilitating and costly chronic diseases.
As part of the partnership, the CDC and AMA have co-developed a toolkit for physicians and other healthcare providers with the best methods to screen and refer high-risk patients to community-based diabetes prevention programs.
The organizations have also provided additional information for physicians and other key stakeholders, as well as an online screening tool for patients.
“The time to act is now. We need a national, concerted effort to prevent additional cases of type 2 diabetes in our nation — and we need it now,” said Ann Albright, PhD, director of CDC’s Division of Diabetes Translation. “We have the scientific evidence and we’ve built the infrastructure to do something about it, but far too few people know they have prediabetes and that they can take action to prevent or delay developing type 2 diabetes.”
