The University of Texas at San Antonio and its academic medical center, UT Health San Antonio, have received a $30 million gift.

Here are four things to know:

1. It is from the Kate Marmion Charitable Foundation and is intended to support the UT San Antonio School of Public Health and improve community health and well-being, according to a Dec. 16 university news release.

2. In recognition of the contribution, the UT System Board of Regents approved naming the institution the Kate Marmion School of Public Health. The foundation honors the legacy of Kate Marmion, granddaughter of former Texas Gov. Dolph Briscoe Jr.

3. The Kate Marmion School of Public Health was established in 2022 under the joint leadership of UT Health San Antonio and UT San Antonio.

4. The $30 million investment will fund community outreach, student scholarships and fellowships to address health disparities in South Texas, particularly in rural areas with limited access to care. A portion of the gift will support targeted health interventions and research to improve outcomes across the region.
