Memphis, Tenn.-based Regional One Health is moving forward with its planned $900 million hospital project.

The health system has named several construction and architecture firms to design and build the new campus, according to a Sept. 29 news release shared with Becker’s.

The project is backed by a $500 million investment from Shelby County, which will be combined with philanthropy and other funding sources.

The new facility will include a patient bed tower, an expanded emergency department, post-acute services, oncology, trauma and burn, women and infants, and modernized ancillary service suites.

The project is expected to create 3,600 construction jobs, 2,300 secondary jobs and $37 million in state tax revenue.

The campus was originally planned for the current hospital property but will now be built at a new location to minimize disruptions to ongoing operations, according to a Feb. 2 health system news release. The Shelby County Board of Commissioners approved the new location in January.

“While anchoring downtown, this new site preserves essential academic medical center services in the same area while also giving us more flexibility in how we build the new facility,” Reginald Coopwood, MD, president and CEO of Regional One Health, said in the February release. “This transformative construction project reflects our continued commitment to advance patient care and modernize our facilities to meet the healthcare needs of the community.”
