San Diego-based Scripps Health has received a $75 million gift from philanthropists Ernest and Evelyn Rady for the North Tower at its Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla (Calif.).
The $664 million, eight-story tower – which opened in June 2025 – will be renamed the Rady Tower in honor of the donation.
“All of us at Scripps are grateful to Ernest and Evelyn Rady for their immense generosity and commitment to our community,” Scripps President and CEO Chris Van Gorder said in an April 28 news release shared with Becker’s. “Their gift continues the spirit of philanthropy established by Ellen Browning Scripps more than 100 years ago when she founded Scripps Memorial Hospital and Scripps Metabolic Clinic.”
Rady Tower comprises comprehensive mother-baby services, advanced technology operating rooms and private patient rooms. It is part of a 25-year master plan launched in 2010 to develop Scripps La Jolla into the region’s leading medical center.
