Prisma Health this fall will begin construction on a $350 million expansion at Greer (S.C.) Memorial Hospital campus that will more than double the number of patient beds and significantly expand outpatient care.

The project will increase Greer Memorial’s bed count by 93 to 175. The South Carolina Department of Public Health approved Prisma’s certificate-of-need application in June.

The project will:

  • Build a $100 million medical office building on the campus.
  • Construct a three-story, 110,000-square-foot tower adjacent to the hospital.
  • Double the size of the hospital’s emergency department, as well as its labor and delivery, intensive care and surgical units
  • Add new pediatric and cardiovascular specialty units.
  • Add primary and specialty care offices.

“This expansion will fundamentally transform Greer Memorial Hospital’s ability to care for this community,” Greer Memorial CEO Todd Walker said in a July 22 news release. “Greer is one of the fastest growing communities in the state, and we’re proud to grow alongside it. This investment will allow our team to continue a legacy of delivering high-quality care and positive patient experiences.”

The project is set to be completed in early 2028.

Greenville, S.C.-based Prisma Health is a nonprofit system with 19 hospitals, 320 care sites and more than 32,000 employees, according to its website.
