Pennsylvania town planners approve 108-bed hospital

Hampden Township, Pa. planners have approved Hershey, Pa.-based Penn State Health’s proposed 108-bed hospital, though the proposal still requires the approval of township commissioners, according to Penn Live.

The primary issues raised over the proposal have been related to traffic safety. Due to the hospital’s proposed location, some local officials are worried traffic will back up along highway I-81 as cars turn into the hospital’s entrance. The road does not have a turning lane.

Though Penn State Health officials have said paying for construction of a turning lane on the highway is not their responsibility, they are willing to pay for it. However, both parties would need to form a separate payment agreement that is not a part of the development plan.
