Mr. Koch’s donation is the largest in NewYork-Presbyterian’s history and the lead gift within the hospital’s $2 billion capital campaign, of which $1.2 billion has been raised.
The facility, which will open in 2018, will be named the David H. Koch Center and will house various services, such as outpatient surgery, interventional radiology and multidisciplinary care for cancer and digestive diseases.
Mr. Koch, the fourth-richest person in the United States according to Forbes, is the co-owner and executive vice president of Koch Industries, a multinational corporation that has prompted some controversy due to its investments in fossil fuels and other commodities. Mr. Koch has served on NewYork-Presbyterian’s board of trustees since 1988.
