Russell Springs, Ky.-based Russell County Hospital is set to break ground in October on the largest expansion in its more than 40-year history.

The $32 million project will add approximately 30,000 square feet and renovate 7,000 square feet of existing space, according to a Sept. 24 report from Fox affiliate WDKY. New facilities will include an emergency room, operating room and a radiology department, along with a consolidated area for mammography, CT and women’s services.

Hospital CEO Scott Thompson told the news outlet the expansion will allow the hospital to deliver critical care locally, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the area. Most patients arrive on their worst days, he said, and the new facilities are designed to support timely treatment and improve outcomes.

Construction is expected to begin in October, with completion targeted for mid-2026. Mr. Thompson said the project is fully funded through hospital reserves, tax credits and state support.
