Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente plans to construct a new hospital tower at its Sunnyside Medical Center campus in Clackamas, Ore.

Five notes:

1. The new tower is slated to open in 2029, according to a March 31 health system news release. Construction will begin in early 2026.

2. The 615,000-square-foot facility will include private patient rooms, expanded emergency room capacity and in-room telemedicine capabilities.

3. The new tower will make Sunnyside Medical Center the first fully electric hospital in Oregon, aimed at reducing the campus’s carbon footprint.

4. The existing hospital building will remain operational until the new tower is complete. Once transitioned, the current facility will be replaced with parking, walkways and outdoor spaces.

5. Sunnyside Medical Center’s campus also houses Kaiser’s regional centers for neurosurgery and cancer care, three medical offices, the Brookside Center for residential mental health and addiction medicine treatment, and the Northwest Center for Heart and Vascular Care.
