Atlanta has emerged as the epicenter of a renewed epidemic of HIV/AIDS, according to the report. The expanded center will help the city’s safety-net hospitals better care for HIV/AIDS patients with modernized treatments.
One quarter of HIV patients in Georgia are treated at a Grady facility. The Ponce de Leon Center, which serves 6,000 patients a year, offers testing, diagnosis and primary, acute, dental, mental and behavioral healthcare services. It also partners with Emory University’s Center for AIDS Research to further study the disease.
