AdventHealth Winter Garden (Fla.) opened its new labor and delivery unit Aug. 24.

The new unit, called The Baby Place at AdventHealth Winter Garden, includes nine labor, delivery and recovery rooms, 10 postpartum beds and two dedicated C-section operating rooms, according to an Aug. 21 AdventHealth news release.

More than 6,000 babies are born each year to families in west Orange and south Lake counties, Fla., and most of those deliveries currently happen outside the area, the release, which cited the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration.

The addition of labor and delivery is part of an expansion at the hospital that also includes 40 progressive care beds for patients requiring a higher level of medical attention and additional operating room capacity to meet the community’s growing surgical need.

The hospital also has future space planned for a Level II neonatal intensive care unit, according to the release.
