The hospital has been struggling to find areas to care for these patients since the pandemic began. Observation patients currently have no designated place in the hospital and are being placed in any available space while undergoing tests to see if they need full admission.
Commissioners for Henry County, where the hospital is located, approved using American Rescue Plan Act funds to support the expansion.
It has not been announced when construction will begin, but the build is expected to take six months.
