Dignity Health’s Mercy Hospital Southwest in Bakersfield, Calif., opened its new 142,000-square-foot patient tower on Dec. 4.

The Thomas M. Hardt Tower expands clinical capacity for the growing westside Bakersfield community, according to a Dec. 1 news release shared with Becker’s. Additions include an expanded intensive care unit with 24 private rooms, an 18-suite neonatal ICU, six operating rooms and two cardiac catheterization suites for emergent heart interventions.

The tower also enhances imaging, women’s services and neurosurgery capabilities for stroke care. The redesigned campus adds 370 parking spaces and improves patient flow to reduce emergency department congestion.

It was a $350 million project, a hospital spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s.
