Hartford-based Connecticut Children’s opened its new clinical tower on Dec. 4, marking the largest expansion in the health system’s history.

The eight-story tower includes a private-room neonatal intensive care unit, a comprehensive fetal care center and sensory-friendly design features, according to a Dec. 4 health system news release. It also features redesigned amenities aimed at improving access and experience for patients and families.

Additional features include locally inspired art themes, open-air terraces, meditation spaces, sustainable design features and new safety technology.

The project cost $326 million, a health system spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s. It was completed after more than two years of construction.

Connecticut Children’s offers care across more than 30 pediatric specialties in more than 30 locations throughout Connecticut, Eastern New York and Western Massachusetts.
