Nurses union says staffing levels 'unsafe' in Tri-City ED

Nurses and the nurses union at Oceanside, Calif.-based Tri-City Medical Center are reporting understaffing at the hospital's emergency department has created overcrowding and dangerous conditions, according to a report from KPBS.

Among the safety concerns are the disbanding of a pool of nurses on-call for understaffed situations, a lack of equipment to monitor patient safety and overflow of patients into halls due to lack of space. The nurses union is also calling for an overflow area to be opened, wait times to be reduced and more security for patients with mental health issues, according to the report.

The nurses say that while they've been reporting concerns for months, they have not yet received a response from management. Senior management had no comment at the time of the report.
