United Airlines stalls lottery drawing bonus plan

United Airlines is shelving a recently announced plan to replace quarterly employee performance bonuses with a lottery-style drawing for cash and other prizes, according to CNBC.

The aborted plan would have made qualified employees eligible for a lottery drawing with prizes including cash, vacations and cars. One employee would reportedly receive $100,000 each quarter. However, employee backlash led United Airlines leadership to roll back the plan.

"Our intention was to introduce a better, more exciting program, but we misjudged how these changes would be received by many of you," United's president, Scott Kirby, said in a note to employees, according to CNBC.
