New CEO named for DMC Children’s Hospital: 5 things to know

The Detroit Medical Center has named Luanne Thomas Ewald CEO of DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan, effective July 1.

Here are five things to know about Ms. Ewald.

1. She previously served as DMC Children’s Hospital’s vice president of business development and strategic planning, and has served as the hospital’s interim CEO since April.

2. In her role as vice president of business development and strategic planning, she was instrumental in the vision, development and successful launch of the new Children’s Hospital of Michigan – Troy.

3. As permanent CEO, she will focus on the continual growth of DMC’s key pediatric service lines and on the expansion of both ambulatory and inpatient pediatric and surgical services, officials said.

4. Ms. Ewald earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, with a specialization in marketing, from Marquette University in Milwaukee, and a master’s degree in hospital and health administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati.

5. She is also a recent graduate of Dallas-based Tenet Health’s Leadership Academy 2016. The DMC is in the Detroit Region of Tenet.
