An outage at Microsoft’s cloud computing platform affected Epic’s MyChart patient portal, the Independent reported.

DownDetector, a crowdsourced interruption-reporting site, showed a big increase in errors Oct. 29 for Microsoft Azure, with MyChart one of the impacted services, according to the news outlet.

“Due to Azure worldwide outage, we are currently experiencing technical difficulties, and authentication to MyChart may be impaired,” Credena Health, a pharmacy subsidiary of Renton, Wash.-based Providence, posted Oct. 29. “We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to resolve the issue.”

Several other MyChart users reported having issues that day, per DownDetector and Reddit posts.

“On Oct. 29, we mitigated an issue affecting Azure Front Door that impacted the availability of some services. Should customers require further assistance related to this issue, they can submit a support ticket,” a Microsoft spokesperson told Becker’s on Oct. 31. “Additional updates can be found in impacted customer Cloud portals and on the Azure status page.”

Becker’s also reached out to Epic for comment.
