UAB Health names new COO

Janet Hadar, MSN, has been appointed COO of University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System, effective Jan. 12.

Ms. Hadar brings more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience, according to an Oct. 28 health system news release. 

She most recently served as president and CEO of Chapel Hill, N.C.-based UNC Hospitals, where she led academic and community hospitals across the region. Her prior roles at UNC Health included senior vice president of operations and vice chair for clinical integration for the UNC Department of Medicine.

During her tenure, UNC Hospitals achieved a CMS 5-star rating, expanded behavioral health access with a new 54-bed child and adolescent hospital, and managed $1 billion in capital infrastructure projects, including a new surgical facility.

As COO, Ms. Hadar will oversee operations at UAB Hospital and Ambulatory Services, UAB St. Vincent’s, UAB Medical West and support services, and will provide operational guidance to system-managed hospitals statewide.

UAB Health System operates 133 locations with 3,173 beds.
