Washington Regional Medical Center has entered into an agreement to assume operations of Physicians’ Specialty Hospital in Fayetteville, effective Dec. 1.

Four things to know:

1. Physicians’ Specialty Hospital, a 20-bed facility with five operating rooms, a procedure room, an imaging suite, laboratory and emergency care services, has been part of Northwest Health, a five-hospital system headquartered in Bentonville, Ark., since 2016.

2. The move will expand Washington Regional’s surgical capacity, enabling the organization to offer more same-day and short-stay surgical procedures. The facility will specialize in orthopedic, spine, and other elective outpatient surgeries, as well as emergency care services.

3. Washington Regional’s surgical services department currently performs more than 30,000 surgeries and procedures annually across its main campus and North Hills Surgery Center.

4. Once the transaction is complete, the facility will be renamed Washington Regional Physicians’ Specialty Hospital.

“Assuming operations of Physicians’ Specialty Hospital represents a strategic investment in the future of healthcare in Northwest Arkansas by Washington Regional,” Washington Regional President and CEO Larry Shackelford said in an Oct. 23 news release. “The addition of this campus will allow us to collaborate more closely with surgeons in our community to expand capacity for same-day and overnight surgical services. Patients can expect the same high quality, patient-centered care at the Physician’s Specialty Hospital facility that they are accustomed to receiving at Washington Regional Medical Center and North Hills Surgery Center.”
