Cedars-Sinai has added a role to its executive team focused on expanding precision medicine. On Sept. 17, the Los Angeles-based health system named Joyce So, MD, PhD, as its inaugural chief genomics officer.

Dr. So brings more than 15 years of experience in clinical genetics and research leadership, according to a news release from the health system. She most recently served as chief of the Division of Medical Genetics at the University of California San Francisco, where she helped expand genetics services across adult and pediatric specialties, including cardiovascular, cancer and neurogenetic care. She also led efforts to improve access through telehealth and e-consult services.

At Cedars-Sinai, Dr. So will lead systemwide genomics and genetics initiatives, with a focus on integrating personalized medicine into routine clinical practice. She will also serve as medical director of the newly established Center for Genomic Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Guerin Children’s and direct the Division of Medical Genetics in the Department of Pediatrics.

Her appointment comes as health systems work to build and fine-tune strategies to deliver precision medicine at scale.
