Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems expects to save $20 million to $40 million over the next year through its use of the Oracle cloud application suite.
The 75-hospital system has adopted the software giant’s finance, supply chain and human capital management suites, and is implementing a budget application as well.
“We really transformed the way we’re doing business as an organization, primarily the standardization and the simplification of our data,” said Bryan Meurer, vice president of enterprise resource planning at CHS, in a June Oracle video. “We’re seeing a lot more detail around our supply chain and inventory management, particularly around what kind of products we’re ordering within our organization.”
CHS previously had about a half-dozen supply chain apps, a general ledger it had “outgrown,” and a human resources system that was underutilized and “very expensive,” Mr. Meurer said.
Besides the cost savings, CHS also anticipates patient care benefits.
“Taking that busy work off of our caregivers, off of our employees, and putting that into a centralized function … it gives more time for the caregivers to spend with patients. That’s the ultimate goal,” Mr. Meurer said.
