U.S. medical supply manufacturers are voicing support for the newly passed One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which includes a series of tax and trade measures aimed at boosting domestic production of personal protective equipment and other medical supplies.
The legislation offers a range of incentives for manufacturers, including full expensing for research and development and facility investments, the removal of federal tax on overtime pay and tighter enforcement on low-value imports by closing the de minimis trade loophole, according to a July 3 news release from the American Medical Manufacturers Association shared with Becker’s.
“This is a watershed moment for our industry and our country,” Eric Axel, executive director of the AMMA, said in the release. “The law’s bold incentives for investment, innovation and fair competition will unleash a new wave of growth and opportunity for U.S. manufacturers.”
The bill also directs new funding to the Strategic National Stockpile to support domestic reserves of PPE and critical supplies, the release said.
