Lori Mazanec, CEO of Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance, Neb., has taken a medical leave of absence.
Ms. Mazanec, who joined the hospital in 2001 and has served as CEO since 2016, is pursuing treatment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and hopes to return early fall 2025, according to a June 13 hospital news release.
Brian Shelmadine, DO, PhD, the hospital’s chief medical officer, assumed the interim CEO role on June 12. He takes over the interim role from CFO Michael O’Dell, who plans to leave the organization at the end of June.
“On behalf of the entire BBGH staff, I am grateful Mike was willing to step into the interim role during my absence, and want to thank him for his service the past several years, along with helping us fulfill our mission,” Ms. Mazanec said in the release.
Lutz and Associates, an accounting firm, will serve as interim CFO while Box Butte General and Bryan Health’s rural division in Lincoln, Neb., search for a permanent CFO.
Box Butte General Hospital is a 25-bed critical access hospital.
