Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, Calif., has laid off 24 employees, according to a Modesto Bee report.

The 209-bed hospital is attributing the cuts — which include 17 full-time and seven part-time positions — to reduced reimbursement and low patient volume, according to the report.

Eligible employees can receive severance packages and are allowed to extend their health benefits through December.

Emanuel officials have said the hospital was in exclusive talks with Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare for a possible sale. An update on those talks is expected later this month, according to the report.
