Paul Beane, DC, a chiropractor at the Sitka (Alaska) Wellness Center, said an electronic medical record vendor he used from April 2008-Jan. 2009 stored patient information on a Web server in an unsecured text file that was easily accessible, according to the report. The patients’ information, which was discovered by a Sitka resident conducting a Google search, included names, birth dates, Social Security numbers and addresses.
Dr. Beane’s Nevada-registered vendor EMR4Doctors.com apparently stopped doing business in 2009. The company’s number was disconnected and is not currently listed in Las Vegas, according to the report.
