Executives from Continuum Health Partners and NYU Langone Medical Center, two of New York City’s major hospital organizations, are in the early stages of partnership discussions, according to a New York Times report.
Executives have said the talks are preliminary and details of how the relationship will be structured remain undefined. The proposed partnership could change the balance of market power in the city, as Continuum reportedly has 26 percent of all inpatients discharged by Manhattan hospitals. While NYU has a smaller share, it draws from a wider geographic area, including some foreign patients.
Continuum runs Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan, an East Side competitor of NYU Langone. It is the parent company of St. Luke’s and Roosevelt Hospitals and the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in Manhattan, along with a branch of Beth Israel in Brooklyn.
