Catholic Healthcare West is in talks with potential buyers for its Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev., according to a Reno Gazette-Journal report.

One potential buyer is Universal Health Services, a for-profit company based in King of Prussia, Pa., that owns three hospitals in northern Nevada and seven in Las Vegas, according to the report.

A spokesperson for Saint Mary’s said San Francisco-based CHW has hospitals in three states that were hardest hit by the economic downturn, according to the spokesperson.

CHW acquired the 380-bed Saint Mary’s in 2007. According to the report, the hospital lost more than $44.5 million in 2010.
