In addition, the policy offers extended leave for six months and continuation of benefits. Mothers giving birth will be eligible to receive paid leave related to the birth of their child, which is generally up to an additional six weeks to eight weeks.
The policy covers both men and women who are introducing a child to their family through birth, adoption and surrogacy. It applies to employees at all six campuses of the hospital that have welcomed children on or after April 1. Over the coming year, the policy will be extended to include NewYork-Presbyterian’s regional hospitals.
“Our employees are the lifeblood of our organization,” said Steven J. Corwin, MD, president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. “This new policy represents an investment in them and their families, but more than that, it’s simply the right thing to do.”
