Don Berwick, MD. President Emeritus and Senior Fellow of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. Dr. Berwick founded the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in 1991 and served as its president and CEO for nearly 20 years. He has been a staff member at Boston Children’s Hospital, Massachusetts’s General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and formerly taught at Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health, all located in Boston. Dr. Berwick served as administrator of CMS under former President Barack Obama, was the first “independent member” of the American Hospital Association board of trustees and acted as vice chair of the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force, among other leadership positions.
