Ms. Groah has dedicated her career to perioperative nursing practice, education and executive management. Ms. Groah has led AORN as CEO and executive director since March 2007. Ms. Groah received AORN’s Award for Excellence in Perioperative Nursing in 1989. In 2000, she was inducted as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. When she was an executive at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco, Ms. Groah piloted several patient safety initiatives including walking rounds for administration and the implementation of the “Just Culture” concept, which creates an environment focused on establishing individual accountability for healthcare workers. Just Culture is now a national healthcare standard.
