“One of the top priorities across our large and diverse market is to preserve, and expand wherever possible, access to primary and specialty care services. This need is made more pressing because changes in the healthcare landscape potentially disrupt existing patient-provider relationships. Many individuals have limited or no access to appropriate, timely and affordable medical services, which leads to profound questions about quality, safety and trust. Ultimately, fixing the flaw is often more challenging than proactively preventing the problem from ever taking root.
At Virginia Mason, we constantly strive to remove barriers to scheduling appointments for consultations and procedures across our organization. We have been expanding hours and adding services, such as urgent care and virtual care, at appropriate locations in our service area so individuals can receive the care they need, when they need it. We’ve welcomed strategic partnerships and affiliations with distant organizations — several more than 100 miles from Seattle — to help ensure people can readily access services previously unavailable in their home communities. We also led the formation of the Puget Sound High Value Network, an alliance of healthcare organizations that understands patient access, quality and safety are foundational to healthier communities.”
