John Jay Shannon, MD. CEO of Cook County Health & Hospitals System (Chicago). Dr. Shannon’s experience in Chicago has spanned decades. In 1990, he joined the medical staff of John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he served as director of the Adult Asthma Clinic, associate chair of the department of medicine and chief of the divisions of pulmonary and critical care medicine. He then moved to Dallas, where he served as executive vice president and CMO of Parkland Health & Hospital System from 2007 to 2012. However, he returned to Chicago in 2013 when he became chief of clinical integration at Cook County Health & Hospitals System. After serving as interim CEO for three months in 2014, he officially took over the role of CCHHS CEO in June of that year.
